Goodbye Summer

Since today is the first day of Fall, I decided to take a look back at Summer. I love summer and really, I'm a little sad to see it go! These pictures were taken some time ago when we spent a wonderful week at the lake just doing nothing. It was so nice. One evening at sunset we dressed Amelia in her little beach dress and took Beach Pictures. She was only 2 then - so hard to believe she'll be 7 in just a few weeks.

I also took pictures of Laura and her violin - and then some of them together....

It was fairly easy to take these of Amelia - she had something to do! Always a plus when shooting kids: Give them something to do... playing, drawing, running, walking, anything. Usually somewhere in there you can call their name and get them to smile at you. It's also really fun to watch them enjoy themselves while you get great shots....

I got the boys for my last shot (they're not usually over-joyed with photo shoots :)) - just as the sun was dipping below the horizon. Goodbye Summer....

I Love Canvas

We've been in our house for over two months now and "finishing up" has picked up in earnest of late. We are hoping to be "done" by the end of the month. Most of the work is taking place outside as we paint, trim, paint some more, and build a porch. Also working on some fencing too. Inside, we now have a mostly-finished kitchen. Cabinets, cabinet doors, tile backsplash, sink, dishwasher and other appliances are all in place. We can't use the stove yet as the gas is not hooked up due to some sort of pipe needing to be installed on the roof. More has been done to finish our bathrooms, and the bedrooms just need a few finishing touches in the decorative department. So close, and yet still so much to do!
One of the things I've been working on is getting my room marked off the to-do list. Last week I finally found a chair and some throw pillows. After looking everywhere for 2 months I was glad to find what I wanted. I also spent time working on some canvas for my walls. I knew what I wanted, it just took a bit of time to pull it all together. I started out with my camera & my little sister, plus a few props.

I then edited them to look like I wanted. My room is understated by itself (cream walls with white trim) with colorful accents. I am mostly trying to bring in Aqua, Purple & Orange. I'm also doing a little gray. So, I wanted to bring this out in my wall décor as well. I know some photographers are not crazy about this technique, but I like it. And I know others do too. So, I left the whole picture B&W with only the flowers/butterfly in color.

Then I transferred them to canvas using an online photo company. I opted for the square format and this is how they turned out:
I was so happy with the way they turned out. I've had them for about a week now, but I can't put them up yet as I need to put hangers on the back. Hopefully tomorrow.

Portraits: Friends Together

We finished up our photo shoot by taking pictures of the girls together. We got some great shots, but my favorite is probably the last one....
