Berry Family

A little over a week ago we traveled over an hour into the country to do a mini-family shoot. Not that their family is small - far from it! We just made our shoot short and sweet. The Berry Family have been friends of ours for some time and we enjoyed seeing them again! It was almost a picture-perfect day with  warm temps, but fairly gusty winds. Typically Oklahoma. :) However, we weren't hampered much by the winds as they'd found us a somewhat sheltered spot for our shoot.

Several years ago we did an all-inclusive shoot with them - taking nearly two hundred pictures! We took family, single, and group shots as well as shooting Grey's Senior pictures. Here are a few throwback pictures from that day. The kids were so much smaller!

Love this one of the guys
Adorable!

Same day, same year.

December: Crazy, Fun & Fulfulling

Our Decembers are always crazy. 2014 was no exception. It started out at a gallop and only increased speed from there until after Christmas, when we crashed for the week - enjoying the absolutely-nothing-to-do pace. Here are the highlights:

Picture from our Christmas Cards this year. They're SO cute!

We revived an old program and sang at a few select places to raise money for The Havens. We had five singing engagements overall. One of the highlights was singing at the Voice of the Martyrs Christmas Party on December 12th. There were over 250 in attendance, one of our largest crowds.
Backstage - waiting to sing

Two days after VOM we had our annual Christmas Program at our church. All the kids did such a wonderful job - I was so proud of them!

On Friday the 19th, we headed to Dallas for my cousin's wedding. Enjoyed taking a few pics there. Congratulations Brittnay & Marel!

My cousin Danielle's daughter Olivia Jo dancing while her mom snaps photos - she was so hilarious!

(And no, we weren't trying to color coordinate - that was just a coincidence!)

On Saturday four of us drove down to the 6th Floor Museum and Dealey Plaza. I've always loved history and this was AMAZING. So moving and well done. We saw the corner window where Lee Harvey Oswald fired those three shots and many other interesting items - including 12 civilians' cameras used the day of the assassination (of special interest to me!). We couldn't take pics inside, so we took some on the 7th floor and outside.

(In the picture above on the right, the window he shot from is located all the way to the right side of the building - on the sixth floor of course. The window is partly raised to recreate how it was on that day.)

The next day we sang at a church in Sherman, Texas where we have good friends. This was our last stop in our fund-raising quest for The Havens. This year I believe we raised about $2000.00 - we were very excited about that! And it was a great way to end our stay in Texas - we returned home late that night. The next two days were a blur as we finished last-minute shopping and details for Christmas. Aaron's fiancee joined us on Christmas Eve for a few days. Christmas Eve festivities began with our annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, held this year for the first time at the small chapel at the campground. It was the perfect setting.

Love-Love-Love
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were bustling and enjoyable. We opened presents, watched movies, played games, but mostly just enjoyed each other and the slow pace. Laura got me the best gift: A passport cover. Perfect!

Two days after Christmas some of us headed to Arkansas for the Wilkins' Family Christmas:
The Wilkins Siblings

Malinda & little Mallory - so sweet!
Aunt Denise reads family stories

Cousin Mary-Kathryn and little Maven - adorable

The two littlest

We closed out the year quietly at home. So much to be thankful for in 2014. What an amazing year it was. I cannot express how much I learned & experienced this year. And yet I still have so much to learn, so I'm looking forward to 2015 with anticipation and expectation. :)

Quotes from my Little Sister

My sister Caroline left for VOM today - she'll be volunteering for the next few weeks. So proud of her and excited to see what the Lord will accomplish through her service. Friday night I was at my parents' house and my littlest sister Amelia asked:

"Where's Caroline?"

Me: "She's over at our house packing."

Amelia: "Why?"

Me: "She's leaving for VOM on Sunday."

Amelia: (emphatically) "I don't want her to go."

It's so sweet to have a little sister. She never likes it when we leave. Last year when I returned from Ecuador she said:

"Rachel, did you know that I thought about you every day and dreamed about you every night?"

My heart melted. Love this girl SO much. :)

Blog Review: 2014

2014 was a wonderful year...... in so many ways! It's always exciting to look back and see what generated interest with you, my readers and fellow bloggers. It's also fun to reminisce over all the memories made - whether they've been my own memories, or someone else's. I am so privileged to be able to capture some of life's greatest moments for so many friends & family and those who become friends by the time I've finished their session. :) I love my job.

#10 Help me earn a Scholarship for my Trip to Ecuador

March 2014:  The year 2014 began with much anticipation - mostly in regards to taking a mission trip outside the USA. After making application and being accepted, I entered the photo contest in hopes of earning a scholarship towards my trip. SO many people helped me out with votes and some went to great lengths in recruiting more votes - I was overwhelmed by your support! And we did it - we got first place..... such an exciting day!

#9 Ecuador 2015

October 2014: Yet another photo contest is the subject of post #9 on the top ten. Looking to return to Ecuador next year (2015) I hoped to earn a scholarship with this photo I took in Ecuador, but found this contest to be much stiffer competition than the first. :) However, there were so many sweet comments left and much support here as well. You guys are awesome!

#8 Event Photography: Passion4Christ 2014

November 2014: In October I covered the Passion4Christ conference in Perrysville, Ohio. It was awesome to capture moments from this great conference, as well as renewing friendships from a year ago, catching up with my teammates from Ecuador and meeting new people. Great Memories.

#7 Our House - Before & After

February 2014: After more than two years of remodeling (and living in "temporary quarters" in the meantime) we'd finally moved into our house! This was a particularly popular post as so many of you had watched/known of our journey from the beginning. It was so nice to finally be settled in our own home.

#6 High Places - Stories from Ecuador

September 2014: Recounting my trip to Ecuador proved more difficult than I'd imagined. It is so hard to try and summarize three weeks of work, new places, feelings & emotions, sights and sounds. Focusing on God's Hand throughout it all brought clarity and praise to my heart. He is mighty and true - the same yesterday, today and forever.

#5 25 Days Out

June 2014: Ecuador makes up a lot of my most popular blogs for the year. :) This one was posted just 25 days before I would find myself in the picture to the right. A quick update for my supporters and a list of items I was preparing for my trip.

#4 Preview: Rachel & Abel

September 2014: Weddings always generate a lot of interest on the blog, and this one was no exception. Stunning couple with an awesome location made for beautiful portraits. I loved working with this couple.

#3 Portraits: Alex

January 2014: My cousin Alex proved to be very popular on the blog ...... and no wonder. This picture is gorgeous - just love her look. I enjoyed being able to take her pictures as well as her brother's senior pictures and her family's portraits. Love you guys!

#2 Aaron & Joyce - Congratulations!

August 2014: After first meeting in October 2013, and then "keeping company" for roughly 8 months, my brother and his fiancĂ©e got engaged. We were so excited and happy! And yes, I'll be shooting their wedding - can't wait.

#1 Abel & Rachel - Sunset Wedding

October 2014: For the second year in a row, a wedding tops our Blog Review. This sunset wedding was truly a beautiful affair. I made new friends in Abel & Rachel and their families. This couple's story is so sweet and unique and their love for each other is apparent. What a lovely day it was.....

Merry Christmas!

A portion of Silent Night from our Candlelight Service last night. Wonderful to have a sister who plays guitar now to accompany us.  :)
